Welcome to the Front Row Club!

This recording was made as a reference for ourselves while touring and as an archive of our live performance - it was never planned to be released. We have taken the original recording and 'mastered' it to provide a better sonic experience, however it has not been re-touched or overdubbed in any way. This recording is provided "as is" - warts and all - for your listening pleasure, so please keep this in mind when listening!

The Front Row Club is intended for those with "Front Row" passion for the band and it's touring history. And, of course, the future! Thank you for sharing your passion with us.

One day in August 2000, we received an email from the Bass Brewery in Burton-on-Trent. They were offering us a year's free beer in return for a show in their Brewing Museum. They were also offering to brew a special Marillion beer (later named 'Racket Fuel') in our honour. The space available was tiny, but the brewery staff were fans and seemed most keen that we should do it, so we settled on an intimate acoustic show. Our acoustic show at the Walls Restaurant in Oswestry, a couple of years earlier, had been a success, and we had recently collaborated in the studio with cellist Stephany Sobey-Jones, so we thought it might be fun to add her to the acoustic line-up and, despite a long break from playing live, she agreed.

We never did get the free beer - the offer was withdrawn after the brewery saw the band-and-crew bar-bill! Bass were also saving up at the time to buy the worldwide chain of 'Holiday Inns', so they were a bit stuck for cash! The shows were great fun to do and the small audience were terrific on both nights, helping us to relax into the pecular environment. . .

The show, which was edited to fit onto one CD, was originally released as the now out-of-print Web Fan Club Christmas 2000 CD. The audio mix on these tracks is different from the one that appears on the DVD release of this concert, 'A Piss-Up in a Brewery'
