The Space - The Lyrics

On top of the world like a flag on a mountain
Feeling so high you can feel so alone
Unable to breathe at the height that you flew
Staring on clouds with no view of below

On top of a girl like a dream in a hotel
Falling towards something out of control
Unable to miss like the man in the tram
Crashing your car in Amsterdam

He did it without knowing, didn't feel a thing
Just wrecked it and kept going

The space around the stars is something that you know
A billion miles of darkness left your feeling low
The space around the stars is something that you know
Everything about you so perfectly restrained
But everything inside you, bites you
Bites you

Everybody in the whole of the world, feels the same inside
Everybody in the whole, whole of the, whole of the of the world
Everyone is only everyone else
Everybody's got to know
Everybody lives and loves and laughs and cries
And eats and sleeps and grows and dies
Everybody in the whole of the world is the same this time

Everybody in the whole of the world, feels the same inside
Everybody in the whole, whole of the, whole of the, whole of the world
Everyone is only everyone else
Everybody's got to know
Everybody lives and loves and laughs and cries
And eats and sleeps and grows and dies
Everybody in the whole of the world, whole of the
Everybody is the same this time
In the whole of the world.

Hi freaks!!!

Before going on, a big big big SSSOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

William Campbell said kiddin' that he should move into After Me, but now I'm
not kiddin' in going into The Space... Hey freaks I'm going and not coming
back in the next three weeks! Maybe when I come back you are already
reviewing Strange Engine (Yeah, Sure!)
Besides I have a very good reason to do it. This is my second best song of
SE after Seasons End. And it have my fav part of all SE. You know "Everybody
in the whole of the world..." Just kills me every time I hear it!
Sorry again aand let's begin

I think the song means, as king, the fakeness of fame and
feeling more than anyone, but from a personal point of view.

"On top of the world like a flag on a mountain"

Refers at someonee who thinks he is the best being in the world

"Feeling so high you can feel so alone"

Having money and fame doesn't mean you have happyness.
Sometimes the famous one, those who thinks there is no one better than them,
and the so "popular"ones or The Hollow Man, feels alone and empty.

"Unable to breathe at the highs that you flew"

Now we have another character here (Not the brave boy for
sure!) It can be a woman it can be a man, but let's keep it a woman. So,
this woman took Steve H to the top, and he feels so numb and sick there.

" Staring on clouds with no view of below"

Blinded by the barrier of whatever took him to the top.
unable to see those who aren't the same as him.

"On top of a dream like a girl in a hotel"

This confusses me. It may means fucking with a whore.
Something so good, but so short and so cheap. It's another way to express
feeling more than the others

"Falling towards something out of control"

He is unable to deal with his new life, so deep in fakeness, so he falls

"Unable to miss like the man in the tram"

Maybe his heart was turn into a stone, and he can't miss, he can't cry, he can't love.

"Crashing your car in Amsterdam"

No Ideas on this one. Why Amsterdam? Did anything historic happen in there
that I don't know?

"He did it without knowing
didn't feel a thing
Just wrecked it and kept going"

Who is He? The woman's husband perhaps. Then a short story
would unfold. Maybe SH was lover of the woman. They both killed the woman's
husband (Yeah, I know, the serial killer strikes again!), making him crash
his car, then he becomes as her. He is now in the places where she has
already been "Unable to breathe at the highs that you flew"

"The Space around the stars
Is something that you know"

The Emptyness which surrounds those who are in the top, or
"the starts" as he calls them

"A billion miles of darkness
Left you feeling low"

An infinite emptynes and lonelyness

" Everything about you
So perfectly restrained
But everything inside you
Bites you... Bites You..."

She seems so normal on the outside, but her conscience is
destroying her all, is repeating inside her all that she has done.

"Everybody in the whole of the world feels the same inside
Everybody in the whole of the world
Everyone is only everyone else
Everybody's got to know
Everybody lives and loves, and laugh, and cries,
and eats, and sleeps, and grows, and dies.
Everybody in the wholeof the world feels the same this time."

He realizes that, though you feel greater, or you have all
the money or all the fame, though you own the world or the complete
universe, at the end you are the same that every human being, that though
you have all the money in the world and eat in the best restaurants, you
aren't different that the staving little boy you see from inside the
restaurant wandering in the streets...

--On "The Space..." ...I think the first section is a swipe at Fish.
Anyone ever hear of him crashing his car in Amsterdam? Not
improbable...the lyric broadens out just as the music does (brilliance
in songwriting, natch) from one very specific person to "
everybody in the whole of the world..." ...and by no small coincidence
also does H's superb voice, swooping and sweeping, grand and
grandiose...in sharp contrast to the tiptoeing, nervous rhythms from the
first half of the song.....(whew...)...man, with writing like that, I
wonder where the hell CSB came from..SORRY, VERRY SORRY....I said
goodbye to all that earlier...
Maybe I'll dial up CSB sometime when I'm onto a strange appetite,
per Aaron Rom's advice....
Alright, enough already...
>Got what it takes to be spoilt to death, KP

Jacco Kuipers said: Not really. This part is about heading for something you can't avoid. H told to the Web that he actually saw this happening when he was in Amsterdam.
